Hey Beautiful Readers!
As Halloween rapidly approaches I realized THE KIDS NEED COSTUMES!
So after asking and asking Thomas what he wanted to be, and him changing his answer about 50 times he finally settled on… A SHARK! Lucky for me he already had a Shark costume that his Grandma got him last year after Halloween for him to play around the house in. It’s a little small, but he was dead set on being a Shark that I decided I’d find a way to “make it work.”
Now, ya’ll know how obsessed I am with matching/coordinating the kids so after thinking of all kinds of sea creatures for Harper to be, I finally – and excitedly – decided to make her the ever so predictable….. MERMAID! Because WHY THE HECK NOT! For the record though it was between a Mermaid and an Octopus. My deciding factor was actually the fact that I had already started making Harper a Mermaid Tail blanket a few weeks ago. So why wouldn’t I just go ahead and finish that to be part of the costume instead of buying all new stuff?
*I’m just going to go ahead and preface this with the fact that I will not be showing you how to make the Mermaid Tail Blanket or the Shark head. That’s because I was already half way through making the blanket when I decided to use it as H’s costume. And Thomas already had his that was store bought so I didn’t have to do anything anyway.

OCEAN PANTS
You’ll Need:
– Blue Sweat Pants
– Tan & Green Felt (for sand & kelp)
-Brightly Colored Felt (for fish)
-Google Eyes
-Felt Glue
Step 1: Trace the shape of the lower leg onto the tan felt. Cut it out and glue it onto the pants.
Step 2: Cut out strips of your green felt in a wavy pattern. Then cut those into different lengths to make different heights of kelp. Glue those on over the sand.
Step 3: Cut out little fish, starfish and other sea creatures from your bright colored felt and glue them on.
Step 4: Don’t forget the google eyes!!
MERMAID ONESIE
You’ll Need:
– Onesie
– Felt (two colors)
-Felt Glue
-Shell Stencil
Step 1: Trace and cut your Clam Shell Base.
Step 2: Cut out six long triangular pieces in your other color felt.
Step 3: Glue your long pieces onto your Clam Shell Base.
Step 4: Glue Clam Shells onto Onesie.
MERMAID HAIR
You’ll Need:
-Headband
-Yarn
-Felt Glue or Hot Glue
Optional: Embellishments
Step 1: Cut lengths of yarn, about 3 feet.
Step 2: Glue the yarn onto your headband at the MIDDLE of the length of yarn.
Step 3: Once the glue is dry fold over the yarn. You can secure it again with glue, however I didn’t because I didn’t want the dry hardened glue irritating Harpers head.
Step 4: Braid the “hair” and secure it.
Step 5: Add embellishments!
