Hey Y’all! Remember last February I posted this post – How to Take Boudoir Photos Yourself, on Your Phone.
Well, it’s my most popular blog post EVER! And with Valentine’s Day coming up again, I figured I’d make another post on How to Take Boudoir Photos on Your Phone!
This years version has new poses, new props, and new tips for all you DIY Boudoir Photo takers out there! This year I also wanted to post a tutorial sharing Boudoir Poses to Build Your Confidence, you can find it HERE!
So let’s get started shall we! This year I’m bringing you FOUR new poses that are guaranteed to make your boo melt! And of course I’ll be showing you how to set up your phone, and lighting.
In addition to that below are the links to everything I am wearing and using in this post:
boudoir pose 1 !
Belly Down : For this post lay on your belly, either on the floor (with some blankets) or on your bed or couch. The more you sink into whatever you’re laying on though, the less curves you’ll see. So I recommend the floor, or a firm mattress/couch! Stretch your arms out in front of you, then push your butt up into the air, while leaving your arms, chest and knees on the ground. If you need to bring your knees in some to create a really good booty bump thats totally fine!
To Get This Shot : Simply set your phone on the ground, or slightly elevated, on a book or small box, with something behind it to hold it up! The easiest! No tripod needed! Just use what you can find around you to prop the phone up. Contrast is best for this shot, so make sure you are either back lit (like I am here) OR have a darker back ground, and bright light coming at you, although, I prefer back lighting because I think it can create a more intimate feeling.
boudoir pose 2 !
The “Come to Bed” : Lay on the edge of your bed with your feet facing to headboard, then bring yourself up onto your elbows, from here you can do lots of different things with your legs and head. I kept my photo for this post pretty PG-13 by just crossing my legs and looking over my shoulder like “come here, now.” BUT you could do some other things too, like :
- pulling one of your legs up towards your chest and tilting your head back with your eyes closed and mouth open.
- you could lay down on your back and put both of your legs up in the air, with your ankles crossed.
- do the pose I did, but pull your dress up so it shows your hips but covers your bits.
- cross your legs like I did but tilt your head back with that “ohhh yes” face
There are so many options here!
To Get This Shot: As for your camera, you’ll want it close to the bed, but not right on the edge – if you find that your head is looking massive compared to the rest of your body, try bringing the camera back slightly, and lowering the angle a little. You’d be surprised how much TINY camera adjustments can change a photo! As for lighting I tried to keep mine soft and romantic in this one. To achieve this try taking your photos with your curtains open at Golden Hour (riiight before sunset) or try adding a sheer curtain over your artificial light to soften it, especially if you have brighter, white lighting in your space.
boudoir pose 3 !
The Chair Kneel : So first, you’ll need a chair, obviously! Any chair will do really. Turn the chair to the side, so that if you sat in it, you’d only see your side profile, not face on. Then, instead of sitting in it, prop one knee up on it, and stretch your other leg out behind you. There are a few variations for this pose as well! You can switch which leg you want bend, and which one you want straight. Meaning – you can have the leg closest to the camera your straight leg, or your kneeling leg, and visa versa. You can also lean down onto the back of the chair, or you can hold yourself up. I did one of each for yall!
To Get This Shot : I really loved the backlighting for this pose as well! One thing I LOVE about Boudoir Photography is that you can create something that evoke emotions and physical feelings without being overtly sexual or just straight up nude, and I really thing backlighting does that! Try getting a naturally backlit photo at Sunset if possible for the most romantic look!
boudoir pose 4 !
The “Who, Me?” : This is one of my favorite poses because it’s so natural, easy to do, and really versatile. Simply sit on your hip/side butt, with your legs out to one side, propping yourself up with your arm. You can do this on a bed, on a couch, or on the floor in a pile of pillows and blankets. You could wear as many or as little clothes/lingerie as you want. You can look at the camera, look away, touch your neck, bite your finger… SO MANY OPTIONS! I also LOVE this pose for myself, and others because it has the magical effect of hiding unwanted curves for those who want to hide them, while also creating curves for those that want them! WHAT?! I really don’t know the science behind how this pose tricks the eye, but it’s a really great pose to have in your collection!
To Get This Shot : Set your phone up to be at center mass with you. Wether you’re on the floor, bed, couch etc. This means you want the camera to be about chest level. The tripod or whatever you’re setting your phone on should be at the end of the bed, either right up against it, or a few inches away. You’ll want to sit a little farther back into the bed with this pose, so the camera can be closer. As for lighting, this pose is really great in that you can light it many ways. You can have light coming from one side of the room, if you do I suggest the light coming towards your face, so that it’s lighter, and creates a shadowed effect on your farther shoulder area. Or you can have light straight on, at any level, I took this at sunset, so the light is in front of me, but it was lower, rather than coming from above like a ceiling light would.
That’s all for this years episode of How to Take Boudoir Photos on Your Phone! I hope you guys liked this years edition as much as you did last years! These are truly a joy for me to write and create and it’s even more fun reading the messages and comments you guys send after creating these yourself!
