Hey Y’all!
Like everyone else we are stuck at home, the days started blending together before the first week of social distancing was over, I’m pretty sure I don’t know what day it is, and I don’t really care. We’ve all had to give up things, and deal with the fact that tons of events, concerts, birthdays, weddings and festivals, that we were looking forward to have been canceled. So when rue21 asked me to share some festival inspired looks that could be worn all year round I jumped at the chance! I mean, once the world gets back to normal I know I’ll be itching to wear some “real” clothes, and take the cute summer clothes I’ve been waiting to wear for a spin, so until then, here is some inspiration for ya!
festival trend : fringe & tassels
where i’d wear this look : on a date or on a night out
One of my favorite things about rue21 is that they always have trending items for a great price. I’ve been wanting one of these tassel belts since last year and I just haven’t found one for the right price, until now!
A great way to wear something as “festival” and “trendy” as tassels is with some more basic pieces. A basic bandage dress, or monochromatic pieces like I did here with a black body suit and black jeans.

festival trend : boho dresses
where i’d wear this look : to brunch with the girls
Another thing I really like about rue21 is that even though they are “generally” geared towards a younger crowd I can still find plenty of pieces, like this maxi dress, that is perfect for someone like me. Who’s a little older than their “target” shopper, has kids and maybe wants to cover up certain areas, while accentuating others.
A great way to style a stunning maxi like this is basically not to! Let this dress be the star of the show and pair it with super simple shoes, minimal jewelry, light make up and call it a day.

festival trend : lace and kimonos
where i’d wear this look : shopping and to lunch
Even though the lace kimono is obviously the “it factor” in this outfit, I want to take a second to talk about the jeans I’m wearing. These are actually the first pair of jeans I’ve ever purchased from rue21 and I seriously couldn’t be happier. I ONLY wear high waisted jeans because they are what I feel my best in, and these high rise black stretch jeans are great, especially for the price.

Styling lace is iffy, somethings it looks great with, others not so much. So here is a sure fire way to make sure it always pairs well, you either pair it with a heavy fabric choice like denim, leather or a knit (think a knitted sweater) or with a basic like a cotton tee, and jeans or a little black dress.

festival trend : 90’s & 2000 vibes
where i’d wear this look : on a day date or to a family function
rue21 is also a great place for basics if you are on a budget. They always have great items that you’ll wear over and over like this scrunched white tee, and this jeweled belt. I know this tee shirt will be my “go to” with a great pair of jeans and some sneakers all summer long!
I’m not the biggest fan of the 90’s vibe thing but I grew up LIVING for all the early 2000’s trends, although now, I’m more of a 70’s girl. But I tapped into my 90’s baby roots and preteen memories for this look. A bun with some long strands to frame my face, a higher waisted skirt plus a belt. And of course, a nude lip with shimmery eye shadow. Putting little touches of these iconic eras of style, without being cliche.

I can’t wait for the world to get back to “normal” so that I can style these new pieces from rue21 in even more ways!
